Laura, I have caligraphed wedding invitations for years. Some paper does not want to “take” the ink, particularly Crane but others too. Have any suggestions for pen change, etc.?
I suggest trying gouache paint. I like Windsor Newton. For white I prefer Dr. Ph. Martin’s bleed proof white. Mix with a little gum arabic as a binder. For black, sumi ink (moon palace or best sumi ink) work great on Crane’s paper. John Neal Booksellers & Paper Ink Arts has a great selection of inks and paints for calligraphers. Hope that helps. Thx for posting.
